World Post Day 2023
Respected
principal, deputy principal, leading teachers, teachers and my dear friends,
Aslaam
vallekum and very good morning to you all!
Do you
know, in ancient times, people relied on pigeons to convey messages to their
loved ones living in faraway? Pigeons were used to convey messages during the
first and Second World War also. However, as things changed these were replaced
by more reliable medium that is postal service. Yes. I am delighted to be here
today to talk about “the World Post Day”.
The World
Post Day is celebrated each year on 9th October. This year theme is
“Together for trust” collaborating for a safe and connected future. World Post
Day is an annual celebration that recognizes the important of postal services
in our lives and the role they play in connecting people and communities
worldwide.
First,
I would talk about the background of
Postal Service. From the earliest times in history, postal services existed
in the form of messengers who travelled large distances on foot or horseback.
Later many countries set up national postage systems and entered into bilateral
agreements for the exchange of mail between countries. Thus, Postal services
came to deliver important letters, parcels and documents.
Secondly,
we need to think about the importance of
the postal service. The postal system has long served as a cornerstone of
connectivity worldwide. We can’t deny that the fundamental role of the postal
service is the key for the digital world. The postal service is an immense role
for the digital inclusion.
Receiving handwritten letter is still a great feeling. The importance is postal service may have been reduced since the digitalizing. However, postal service is still an essential part of our community as delivering things which we purchase through online. Moreover, before the days of internet, people would have a really hard time getting letters and packages on one another. Postal services have helped change how people communicate with one another in drastic ways. Therefore we need to remember the essential role of postal services in connecting people and business around the world.
Thirdly, how can we get involved in the world post day celebration? Definitely, this day offers an opportunity to appreciate the postal workers who ensure the delivery of mail and packages, as well as to reflect on the evolution of postal service in the digital age. Why can’t we send a hand written letter or post card to our loved ones?
Last but not least, if you have a local post man who delivers mail to your house, thank him for his services. Talk about which mailing service you trust the most. Find some time or a visit to your local post office to express your gratitude to postal workers and learn more their services.
Thank you.
I wish you all a wonderful and fantastic morning.
